Shetland Sheep: Rich in History, Rich in Textiles

Shetland Sheep: Rich in History, Rich in Textiles! Our farm mission is to enjoy and promote the wonderful diversity of the Shetland breed by fully utilizing to the best of our ability all they have to offer historically. We believe the best preservation and management of this breed includes it's full spectrum of history. We encourage old and new shepherds alike to join in the fun by engaging in fiber arts, especially spinning and knitting, as this breed is so intimately linked with those aspects of the arts.

New Yarn in Web Store!

100% Wheelspun Yarn by Wheely Wooly Farm
An Easter Basket of Yarn!
Spring is awakening around Wheely Wooly Farm!  Spring birds are arriving, the grass is perking up (something that makes any shepherd perk up!!), and the sheep start getting a little silly.  Everyone is happy that the toughness and dark days of winter are fading away.

With all the distressing news and terrible headlines here in America, and around the world, it's hard to believe that when you walk out the door, that door shuts behind you and you enter a world that seemingly doesn't know a thing about the Coronavirus.  The birds sing over and over.  The sheep leap.  The perennials are peeping up out of brown earth.  The wind is warm...er.  As I walk about the farm, an eerie feeling hangs over my mind.  Do the sheep sense my distressed thoughts?  The dogs want to sit closer.  The sheep hang out longer for chin scratches.  The horses follow me around right behind me, as if to ask..."What's wrong?  Everything ok?".  When I stop, my pony bumps into me (he's 33, doesn't see real good anymore!).  He's there, tenderly asking to be petted, telling me to shed my thoughts while I help him shed his winter coat.

Part of this virus is knowing that the best gift of all is an ordinary day.  While some must work to confront the virus, some must stay back to keep the virus at bay.  Create an ordinary day for yourselves.  Do things you would ordinarily do on a day off at home.  Rest, connect, knit or crochet.  Ordinary is a gift.
